Spooky sounds and songs to perk up your costume party!

We dug deep into a witch's cauldron of scary ditties, vampire anthems, and horror movie and TV themes to showcase the greatest Halloween music on Google Play. These classics compromise everything from oldies to hip-hop, and from classic R&B to rock and new wave.

Michael Jackson's epic "Thriller" is so groovy ghoulish that it features a rap by horror flick icon Vincent Price and ties Bobby "Boris" Pickett's "Monster Mash" for Defining Halloween Classic. While those two are pulled out especially for October 31st, classic rock numbers Warren Zevon's sly hipster satire "Werewolves of London," Blue Oyster Cult's "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" and Donovan's "Season of the Witch" deservedly receive a scary amount of airplay all year long.

Bow Wow Wow's propulsive cover of "I Want Candy" should get children of all ages psyched for trick or treating, while DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince's "A Nightmare on My Street" will have them skipping off into the night as their sullen older siblings stay home and mouth the words to Eminem's truly terrifying "Kill You."

Since our Metal Maven Jen Guyre spotlighted an intoxicating mix of monster thrash elsewhere on Google Play, we've put the now-cuddly Ozzy Osbourne on top of the "Crazy Train," which opens with a truly unholy guitar riff. The true OG's—Original Goths—Bauhaus' lugubrious post-punk dirge "Bela Lugosi's Dead" still has the power to get teens to don all-black ensembles.

If it's all getting too heavy for you, try Ray Parker, Jr's irrepressible Ghostbusters theme or honk and stutter along with "I Put a Spell on You" from Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who performed in a coffin dressed like a voodoo vampire. Perhaps Hawkins was listening to Ministry's "Everyday Is Halloween" and its "fly your freak flag forever" message.
