She & Him, "Oh Boy!"

The entire Rave On Buddy Holly tribute album is worthy of your attention, with the likes of Paul McCartney, Cee Lo and Florence + The Machine offering up respectful but radical recastings of Crickets classics such as "Not Fade Away" and "That'll Be the Day." She & Him's indie retro take on A.M. radio sunshine pop also has a kinetic roots rock side with guitarist M. Ward offering rockabilly thrills behind Zooey Deschanel's Karen Carpenter-esque vocal purity. On this romp through "Oh Boy!," Ward and Deschanel sound like they're having a ball recreating a Buddy Holly mono mood that should have listeners pining for soda shops, juke boxes and an endless stack of quarters. – Nick Dedina, Google Play
