The Raveonettes, “Recharge & Revolt”

Every day, Magnifier selects key tracks from the most innovative and exciting artists for our Song of the Day. All the music on Magnifier can be added to your Music Beta library for free.

There are far worse things in the world to ape than Phil Spector’s wall-of-sound as channeled through the fuzzboxes and surly postures of The Jesus and Mary Chain. The Raveonettes not only manage this, but do it with sweetly dark humor and memorable hooks. Both 2009’s fine In and Out of Control and this year’s Raven in the Grave (which passes for a bad goth pun) are studies in icy cool morbidity. “Recharge & Revolt,” a single from Raven, features the male half of the duo, Sune Rose Wagner, on reverb-tanked vocals, but the real star is that half-time guitar/synthesizer lead, which meanders through the song, emitting crystalline keyboard vapors and tone-bending amplifier squall. This is a kissing cousin of LCD Soundsystem’s “All I Want” (or whatever Bowie/Eno tracks that inspired it). -- Eric Grandy

Just got the heads up on your new service! I wish you the best Google. Also, please add a preview or listen button before we add songs, with our previous library 2 gigs can add up fast! Maybe don't make these count towards the limit.

I second the previous comment. A preview button would be great!

As the previous anonymous poster stated. Congrats!!! But also as (s)he stated. we need a preview/play button to try songs out. I wont be adding anything I haven't at least listened to and decided I liked.

Great song. I would like to just express my interest in a preview button as well!! Little annoying when I was not overly impressed by other songs and had to go into my music folder to delete them.

I think you need to take a crash course in Raveonettes 101. :)

The male half of the duo is SUNE ROSE WAGNER, not Jakob Hoyer. Hoyer used to drum for them in their early years.

fyi. it is really easy to delete a song you don't want after you've added it.

Far from my usual style of music. But I kind of dig them.

As others stated a nice preview would be a wonderful addition however it's not that big of a deal yet. Great service you guys have here.
