Pains of Being Pure at Heart: The Pleasure of Pains

Brooklyn’s The Pains of Being Pure at Heart took their name from a children’s story with a tragic ending. Despite their appellation’s gloomy allusion, their brand of indie pop has garnered commercial success, with their most recent release Belong skipping past college radio and indie blogs to land in the Top 20 Modern Rock chart. Recently, they've performed on late night TV and caught the attention of prominent new fans like Mark Hoppus of Blink 182. Magnifier recently caught up with members Kip, Peggy and Alex, who discussed their continued enthusiasm for their indie label roots (Slumberland Records), the early influence of Siamese Dream-era Smashing Pumpkins and the magic of holding a digital music collection with thousands of songs in the palm of your hand. Share the same magic by adding their single “Heart in Your Heartbreak” to your library. -- Michele Flannery
