Music Beta releases mobile web app for iOS

We’ve heard your feedback, and we’re pleased to announce that Music Beta is now available to users with iOS 4.x and above!

You can reach our new HTML5 mobile web player from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch by visiting music.google.com on your mobile browser.

Our new web app gives you instant access to your Music Beta library and works with iOS controls. Simple horizontal swipes offer a seamless transition between ‘Album’, ‘Artist’, ‘Song’, ‘Playlist’ and ‘Genre’ views. You can even play your music in the background when you exit the browser.

We hope you enjoy it!

I can't seem to find it in the app store. Any tips on how to search for it?

Doesn't work for me. Shows empty interface, without my library

@Brandon: It's a "web app". That means it a web page specially designed for the iOS platform. Just open Safari on your phone and go to music.google.com...

So umm....when are you going to update the Android app. It desperately needs UI improvements. Finding music you want to listen to through it sucks horribly.

This is not an "app" you will find in the app store...it is a "WEB APP"...which means you use the Safari browser on your iOS device to visit a website address (http://music.google.com) and you'll see the interface described above.

Once you have done that, bookmark the page and choose "Add to Home Screen"...which will place an icon on your device just like any other app...allowing you to use Google Music anytime you want! Good luck!

Very good! It's not a App from iTunes Store, is just direct your Safari to music.google.com with iPhone, iPod or iPad.

I can't get it to play one whole song. Even when I leave the page open it pauses half way through.

This is great news, now please get it to work! :)

Nevermind my previous comment! It was wifi's fault! Awesome service! Thank you Google!

even when the site works perfectly on windows phone 7, i would love to have an app built specially for the windows phone 7 OS.

Good start, however any song over 10 minutes cuts of and starts the next song in the order. Fix this and we are getting closer.. Of course a native app is way more ideal, however I'm sure Apple is afraid of the competition..

I think it's a little slow and it doesnt always respond when I press the "next" button. But well, its still just a beta version :)

Same as Alex. I just have an empty interface on my iPod touch in safari.

Question: On the Android app, I see my library and it lists the locally stored tunes and those that are stored in the cloud in the same listing. Local ones are played locally, and the rest are streamed, clever and cool. Does this web app do the same? I know it cannot access itunes, but is it possible to associate the web app with any storage space on the iphone.... you know, for those moments when you're in a tunnel, up a mountain or in some other place without data access?

Longer reach & fresh features on a near-weekly basis: Go Google Go! ^_^

I LOVE IT!! Thanks! ONE issue i can't figure out... how can I easily get back to the current song "Now Playing"?? I see no way of doing that. I like to listen and browse while playing, but can't get back to the Now Playing unless I search for the song that's playing and click on it.

For those seeing blank pages... remove the Music "web app" from memory (from Multi-task bar), then experiment going in from the web icon you created on your iPhone (you DID create a quick access bookmark on your Homepage, didn't you? ;-)... and going from opening Safari and using a browser link there.

I seem to have better luck going in from Safari to music.google.com then from starting the homepage icon that's "supposed" to be one in the same.

Hope that helps and please let me know how to find Now Playing... and THANK YOU GOOGLE!! My once dormant , 9000 file music collection now has a new life!! and a cloud backup ta boot! I love it!! :-)

great webapp. my main problem with it is that it pauses after every song when i have it running in the background.

Will you create the same functionality as with Android where you can "pin" the song for listening offline?

Ben said...

Any plans to have the offline mode for the web app?

Same issue as Alex and Rockfen, empty interface on my iPhone (iPhone 4, iOS 5.0.1). I use google music through Chrome on my Mac with no issues, I've used the Android app, AND accessed the web app over Android, all works fine.

Only an empty database on my iPhone :(. Any update on this, Google? I don't seem to be the only one with the issue.

How about an app (native or web) for Blackberry!? They just recently released BBM Music and I think this would give it a run for its money. Competition leads to innovation does it not?

sam said...

I do not like it
I LOVE ANDROID
Apple shoudln't even get webapp

Same issue as adamw, though I'm sure it's a problem with iOS and not the web page. If I don't have the phone unlocked and the web page in focus it won't continue on to the next song.

Whenever I bring it up and navigate to the songs menu, it seems to only list songs that start with symbols, numbers, and letters down to "D". I can select categories with different letters, but it only lists songs starting with that letter. As such, there's no real way for me to shuffle my entire collection, at least that I know of. However, if I go back to the full version of the site, this doesn't seem to be a problem...it's just that the full version is a bit unwieldy on a phone.

Any ideas?

How do I download music to my computer without using an Android?

Works great for 4.x devices, but not the 1st & 2nd generation iPod Touch devices out there that are dedicated to streaming & maxed out at iOS 3.1? Is there any way to access Google Music using this iOS version?!

Anonymous said...

Needs access to "thumbs up" autoplaylist.

Now we just need Google Music to work on the Mac better. The PandoraBox application for Mac intercepts the keyboard commands for controlling music and even works with the Mac remote. That would be top on my wishlist for Google Music.

I need auto playlists and thumbs up/down feature. Plz add that.
