The Limousines Stretch Out

Each week, Magnifier offers exclusive interviews and free tracks from our favorite artists. All the music on Magnifier can be added to your Music Beta library for free.

When The Limousines took the stage you can see audience members shifted around uncomfortably. After all, the band is just a duo, with Eric Victorino on vocals and Giovanni Giusti on keyboards and synths. Yet, seconds after their show began, the group commanded the stage with a deft, modern take on ‘80s new wave and early ‘90s British indie rock. Victorino summoned Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan and Red Rocks-era Bono with his confident, often witty, showmanship, while Giusti truly “rocked” the synths and was drenched in sweat halfway through the set. Not to be underestimated, they even pulled off a knowing cover of Paul Simon’s “You Can Call Me Al” that showed how the tune foreshadowed post-millennial anxiety.

The Limousines, who originally collaborated over the Internet, may be new to the music scene, but they are currently converting listeners across the country with two singles from Get Sharp, their debut album. First single “Very Busy People,” an arch piece of social dance commentary in the vein of LCD Soundsystem, was still being added to radio stations even as their next single “The Internet Killed The Video Star” took off on YouTube (of course). And if you don’t believe us about their live power, compare the free studio cut of “The Internet…” with the exclusive concert version. Both are provided here for your enjoyment. -- Nick Dedina
