The Pine Hill Haints, “Handsome Molly”

This uber-eclectic lo-fi ‘billy band recalls the U.K.’s fabled punks-gone-roots Mekons, with their wild, scrappy, try-anything-once musical ethos. Plunky jugband blues vie with stripped-down rock and occasional gusts of power pop. Here they tackle a traditional tune, with no-frills, old-timey fiddle and banjo; they call this “ghost music” but The Hill Haints make the tune come alive. – Lawrence Kay, Google Music
