Hess is More, “What’s on the Second Floor”

Over the course of their career, Mikkel Hess and co-writer/producer Rasmus Bille Bahncke's Hess Is More project has focused on creating music for films and performance pieces. This focus on the visual element of music is evident on “What’s On the Second Floor,” a track from the group’s latest collection, Creation Keeps the Devil Away. Over the song’s lightly thumping, disco-flavored drums and trance-like synths, the ghostly vocals intone, “Show me what you’re going in for, and let me check if there is more.” The overall effect approximates the creepy, metaphysical strangeness of psych folk, albeit it with a modern, electro spin. – Sam Chennault
