Chris Isaak, “Live It Up”

When roots rocker Chris Isaak broke into the ‘80s pop scene, he proudly carried the banner of old-school rockabilly, giving the music of Elvis and Orbison a modern, multilayered twist. His new album, Beyond The Sun, is a two-disc, 25-track love letter to Sun Records, and features covers of classics by Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash and other legends who recorded for the Memphis label. “Live It Up,” however, is an Isaak original, though it feels like a lost, jittery rockabilly gem with its bouncy rhythm, twangy guitars and a plunking, thunking roadhouse piano. Isaak sings with the same vigor and passion he had when he was young and hungry, and this track would make Jerry Lee proud. -- Lawrence Kay

Wow, it sounds like Isaak finally got his energy back. Want to hear the rest of this.
