Joss Stone, “Somehow”

On “Somehow,” lead single from Joss Stone’s LP1 album, the singer lets her listeners in on her predicament. Her boyfriend, you see, does little else other than taking up space on her couch. She really wants to “kill him,” because the dude never watches “the telly dressed or sober.” He enjoys hitting the bottle, apparently. Stone claims she’s torn -- “There comes a point even for me/ I got my pride” -- yet there’s something in the tune’s jovial, soul-pop bounce that leads one to suspect she just might enjoy the back-and-forth. – Justin Farrar
