Jamey Jasta: Metal’s Hardest Working Man

Jamey Jasta has unequivocally earned his stripes as the hardest working man in metal music. Schooled in hardcore punk’s DIY ethos, Jamey came up in the early ‘90s booking his own shows and defining his own scene -- and is very much a self-made man because of it. Best known for fronting metalcore luminaries Hatebreed, who’ve sold millions of records worldwide in their nearly 20 year career, Jasta has lent his signature throaty shouts to sludge metal outfit Kingdom of Sorrow alongside Crowbar’s Kirk Windstein since 2005, and released a one-off album for hardcore outfit Icepick with Skarhead’s Danny Diablo in 2006. While each side project boasts a personal hero of Jasta’s sharing vocal duties, this summer he corralled a slew of big names in metal like Lamb of God's Randy Blythe and All That Remains' Phil Labonte to lend their skills to his long-awaited solo endeavor Jasta. And, if that doesn't sound like a busy enough schedule, the former host of MTV’s Headbangers Ball also runs his own label imprint Stillborn Records and oversees music and MMA lifestyle clothing line Hatewear. We caught up with the unstoppable heavy metal renaissance man at this summer’s Mayhem Festival to find out what goes into each project, and how he still finds time to sleep. Watch the video above and don’t miss out on adding a sampling of his work to your music library for free. -- Jen Guyre
