Welcome To Magnifier

Wondering what Magnifier is? Well, when I was in junior high school, I had a friend whose older cousin lived in England, and that cousin would always send my friend great new records we usually knew nothing about, except that if the cousin liked them there was a very good chance we would, too. That's how we first heard the Clash's debut LP, Closer by Joy Division, and countless other albums I still treasure today.

So, Magnifier is basically Music Beta's cousin who lives in England, except that we don't actually live in England, and you don't have to wait weeks for new packages to arrive via air mail. Because we’ll bring you new free music each and every day. Sometimes it will be songs you haven't heard of by artists you have. Sometimes it will be new artists we think deserve more attention. And sometimes there will be video interviews and live performances. But you can always count on the following:
  • You can add any or all of the songs to your Music Beta library instantly
  • You can do this for free
  • The artist is being featured because someone on our team thinks they're pretty great
We hope you enjoy browsing through all these free songs and videos as much as we enjoy bringing them to you. -- Tim Quirk, Head of Music Programming

This sounds really awesome, I can't wait to use it :D I absolutely love discovering new music, I trawl youtube and my friend's music libraries all the time.
Kind of an ironic shame though that Music Beta isn't available in England. :/

Listening to Eminem on Google Music Beta at this very while working in Google Docs Spreadsheet. Believe it or not his music and Royce Da 5'9" - entertains my brain during this mind numbing cell to cell dance.

Keep the free music coming.

:-)

will this button type thing be available on other music blogs? or is it just a music blog from google?

There should be a link to this blog from within Google Music Beta's player. There could be an option there also to set a pop-up for a daily reminder about what's available here on Magnifier.

And it would be cool if all of this was tied to Google+ too.

One more thing: It would be cool for users (like me!) to be able to suggest bands and songs for you to consider.

You should tag posts with genres so we can sort them by specific styles of music.

I see little reason to follow the musical tastes of a small group of developers at Google. However, the Magnifier model is brilliant. Could this be used in such a way that artists, record labels, music archivist bloggers, etc could post music with an "add to library" link? It seems like this could revolutionize music sharing!

Oh yeah, copyright...

I'd like to hear the song first regardless it's free or not. It's missing the play button so far.

I would love to have podcast subscriptions added. I know I can simply put them in there but it would be nice to have. Then it could automatically delete after a certain time you set for the podcast.

Does anyone else wish the +1 button existed for each post here?

navethechimp would get a +1 from me.

Any way to listen before adding?
