For Los Angeles band Fitz & the Tantrums, the past is not only part of their present, but the underlying component of their neo-rug-cutting sound. Blending Motown/Stax-inspired soul along with pop, groove, funk, hip-hop and doo-wop, they sound exactly as frontman and namesake Michael "Fitz" Fitzpatrick described to Magnifier: "We are a non-stop hot sweaty mess dance party!" Those words couldn't be more true, as anyone who has caught their explosive, clap-along, everyone-on-their-feet live shows can attest.
"Don't Gotta Work It Out (Live)"Fitz & The Tantrums
The band came together when Fitz acquired a discarded organ and called his best friend and saxophone player James King who brought chanteuse Noelle Scaggs into the mix. Now, after catching the ear of Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine, soul queen Sharon Jones and ‘80s icon Daryl Hall, it's more than famous friends that has this swingin’ LA sextet on our radar. Their modernly vintage sound is built with excellent songwriting, catchy melodies and tight musicianship, all, surprisingly, sans-guitar. Watch as we sit down with all six sensational members to learn more about their music, and don't miss your chance to add a live version of their great "Don't Gotta Work It Out" to your own personal collection. -- Jen Guyre

Outstanding motown sound.
Love them. They're making music sound good again.
I've seen these guys on Carson Daly and they are great!!!!
I've been obsessed with Pickin' Up The Pieces for a while now. They're right, I didn't even realize there wasn't a guitar - and I don't miss it.
Wow, I like it, thanks Magnifier.
I really enjoyed this track. I guess this blog has done its job as I'm now going to have to go search out the rest of Fitz & the Tantrums' discography and give it a listen.
this is so cool! thanks magnifier!
This band does everything a band should do: make you want to play music. Thanks for bringing them to us Jen Guyre! Who else should I listen to?
Amazing live shows. Beside the single "Moneygrabber" check out "Pickin up the piece" although I like the whole album.
Noelle Scaggs is ENFUEGO!
