Antenna: November

Every month, Antenna brings you a new batch of tracks from rising hip-hop, indie rock, pop, metal, country and electronic artists. November's harvest is especially bountiful, with something for every music fan to be thankful for.

Unstoppable Seattle rapper/producer duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are riding the momentum of their recent chart-topping album The Heist. On the new track "Victory Lap," Macklemore (a.k.a. Ben Haggerty) rhymes celebratory and sentimental over Lewis' horns, piano chords, and bass bump. Bay Area mixtape vets Main Attrakionz clear the cloudiness from their raps for the laid-back (to melancholic) "La Piñata" off debut LP Bossalinis & Fooliyones. Heading south of the equator, Colombia's ChocQuibTown mix Afro-Colombian rhythms, Spanish rapping and modern electronic beats on "Uh La La" off album Eso Es Lo Que Hay.

Melbourne, Australia artist Kylie Auldist sings warm soul with a vintage sound on the richly orchestrated "Still Life," backed by slick guitar, organ, swelling strings and horns, and a lively rhythm section. On Australia's far opposite coast, in the relative isolation of Perth, Tame Impala have honed an expansive psychedelic rock sound, which they leaven with serious '60s/'70s pop vibes on the sprawling (6 minutes), sunshiney "Apocalypse Dreams" off Lonerism.

Connecticut band Empty Flowers, which includes members of metalcore act Cable, make a pleasantly jarring, lurching indie rock noise on "Just Being Pushed" off debut album Six. Austin metal purists The Sword ride forth with some triumphant riffs and mythically prophetic lyrics on "The Veil of Isis" off new album Apocryphon.

Ultraista is the supergroup trio of Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, Beck/Atoms for Peace drummer and multi-instrumentalist Joey Waronker and singer Laura Bettinson, and on "Smalltalk," they make electropop every bit as cool and stylish as you'd expect. Indie/avant-R&B crooner How to Dress Well (Tom Krell) is more lo-fi, but "& It Was U," from recent album Total Loss, highlights singer Krell's totally capable voice with a newly clean and minimalist production style.
