Youth Lagoon, "July"

Youth Lagoon's home-recorded songs frequently begin as whispers but build into persistently stomping indie pop. On "July," Trevor Powers' faint singing emerges out of reverb and organ tones, pulled ahead by a steady kick thump to a climax of guitar fuzz and distant wails, before dissolving into clusters of electric piano. It's one expertly arranged surge, and, like all of Youth Lagoon's songs, it's an inviting world to inhabit. – Eric Grandy, Google Music
