Started by brothers Eric and Ryan Rogers, the New Orleans indie pop collective Empress Hotel specialize in dreamy anthems that sound fresh and original even as they float through your ears like half-remembered radio hits from decades long gone by. A perfect example of Empress Hotel’s listener-embracing aesthetic is “Here Comes The New Challenger,” which marries burbling ‘80s Anglophile synth-pop with a tart Americana rock chorus that alt-country bands would kill for.
